The Valais Village on the Gemmi Route

The Valais village of Inden is located on the Dala-Raspille cultural trail, which leads from Leukerbad to the well-known wine villages of Varen and Salgesch. The former train station of the Leuk-Leukerbad Bahn has been brought back to life as a "mum and dad shop" with fantastic attention to detail. A beautiful playground, the late baroque church, the 500-year-old Antonius chapel and the 270° cinema await your visit.

Overview

Inden was first mentioned in documents dating back to 1242. The community itself came into being around 1290. However, there is hardly any evidence of the initial years of the community, as a fire in 1741 destroyed almost the entire village, including the archive. In the course of the 20th century, the strong agricultural orientation was lost in Inden due to a rural exodus.

Goethe's mention of Inden in his travelogue from 1779 is probably one of the most prominent historical testimonies of the place: "Below us, at the end of a beautiful green meadow that went along an enormous gorge, we saw the village of Inden with a white church right on the slope of the rocks, lying in the middle of the landscape.
