Circular hike to Flüealp

Leukerbad owes its existence to the abundant hot springs in the village and in the slightly higher Dalaschlucht. This hike leads out of the town in a loop around the upper Dalaschlucht and perfectly showcases Leukerbad's impressive rock face.

In and around Leukerbad, 3.9 million liters of water at a temperature of 51°C flow daily from 65 thermal springs and feed the numerous swimming pools and wellness areas in town.

The hot springs have attracted bathing enthusiasts since Roman times and have been an attraction for centuries on the historic route between Valais and the Bernese Oberland. This route ascends the Gemmi wall above the town via a zigzag mule track carved into the rock about 250 years ago. The airy path can be observed from our hike and makes the rock face even more impressive.

The hike leads from the Leukerbad village square up to the pastures of Folljeret to the west, then continues over the pastures of Majing further up the Dala valley to the Flüealp. In summer, the alpine flora creates a natural color display here. The grazing cows complete the idyllic ambiance. Fresh cheese can also be tasted directly on the alp.

At the farthest point of the circular hike just above the Flüealp, a natural rock grotto was expanded into a small rock chapel in the 19th century. This peaceful and contemplative little pilgrimage site even has its own spring with holy water, which is also said to have healing effects for the eyes. From here, the path leads back to Leukerbad on the other side of the valley via Clabinu. The Buljes restaurant is ideal for a stop shortly before returning to the village.
