Gemmi Trail

Icon Tour
The Gemmi Trail is as much a part of Leukerbad as the thermal waters. After the steep ascent, you will be rewarded by the unique panorama over the Valais Alps.
"The most audacious structures in the world do not, after all, give so great an idea of human courage and strength as this path suspended in mid-air, which goes away with ease over immeasurable, indestructible masses". This description of the Gemmi Pass by Wolfgang Menzel, German writer (1798-1873), probably best captures the attraction of the Gemmi Trail. Many others, such as Goethe, Mark Twain, Lenin or Picasso, hiked before and after him on the impressive mountain trail, on which you climb about 900 metres in altitude in around two hours.

The path up the Gemmi Pass is very well developed. Nevertheless, the steep and partly exposed mountain hike should not be underestimated.
