Hike to Adelboden

Icon Tour

Alpine crossing hike from the Gemmi Pass to the Bernese Oberland. The route leads directly from the Gemmi Lodge via Lake Dauben to the Chindbettipass summit and then through the wild landscape of the Engstligenalp down to Adelboden. An ideal day route for sure-footed mountain hikers with good fitness.

The start is at the Gemmi Lodge on the Gemmi Pass (2,322 m), directly at the mountain station of the Leukerbad cable car. The path first gently descends along Lake Dauben, a glacier-formed high mountain lake without visible outflow. The landscape is barren and impressive – surrounded by the rock faces of Daubenhorn and Schwarzhorn.

It continues along the wide mountain path towards Chindbettipass (depending on the variant) or directly to the Engstligenalp, a vast high plateau with active alpine farming.

The last kilometers go down a partly steeper path into the Engstligen Gorge. Here, the famous Engstligen Falls roar, one of the highest waterfalls in Switzerland, in two stages 600 meters deep into the valley. A well-secured mountain path leads in about 1½ hours to Adelboden.
