Schwarzhorn hike (Gemmi Lodge - Crans-Montana)

Icon Tour

An impressive alpine crossing route from the Gemmi Pass (Gemmi Lodge) via the Lämmerenhütte and the Schwarzhorn (3,105 m) to Crans-Montana. This route combines glacier crossing, via ferrata sections, and scenic high mountain landscapes. It is ideal for experienced mountaineers with glacier and high altitude hiking experience.

The route starts at the Gemmi Lodge (Gemmi Pass, 2,350 m), accessible by cable car from Leukerbad. In about 1.5 hours the wide path leads to the Lämmerenhütte (2,502 m), a popular SAC hut on the edge of the Lämmer Glacier.

From there, the route climbs to the Lämmer Glacier. The ascent to Schwarzhorn follows the north ridge, an exciting, partly secured passage with wire ropes and via ferrata elements (difficulty B, sure-footedness and no fear of heights required). The summit at 3,105 m rewards with a fantastic panoramic view of Wildstrubel, Daubenhorn, Plaine-Morte, and the Rhone Valley.

The descent goes via the Rothorn Pass (3,002 m) – a natural passage to the Valais – and leads through alpine terrain with a long valley descent down to Crans-Montana.
