Information event in Albinen

Leukerbad, 20/05/2025 - On 20 May 2025, an information event on the Torrent Master Plan was held in the Burgersaal in Albinen. During the evening, the residents of the municipality of Albinen were given a comprehensive insight into the future direction and development of the Torrent adventure mountain – with a focus on modern infrastructure, attractive experiences and sustainable prospects.

The evening was hosted by Christian Grichting, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Torrent-Bahnen Leukerbad-Albinen AG (LLAT), and Urs Zurbriggen, CEO of My Leukerbad AG, which is responsible for operating the Torrent cable cars. Together, they provided an insight into the eventful history of Torrent-Bahnen and explained the current organisation and the division of roles between the owner LLAT and the operator My Leukerbad AG. While LLAT is responsible for maintenance and investment in infrastructure, My Leukerbad AG is responsible for operations, personnel management, and product and pricing.

Christian Grichting and Urs Zurbriggen explained the strategy behind the Torrent master plan, which sets out the structure and content of the master plan. With a clear vision and concrete measures, they outlined how the renewal of the railway infrastructure will go hand in hand with an attractive and diverse range of experiences. It became clear that the Torrent Master Plan is not just a technical project, but a central building block for the sustainable development of tourism and the design of offerings for the entire destination.

In the concluding question and answer session, various concerns and assessments from the audience were taken up. Residents contributed different perspectives and took the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the planned developments. The event provided space for questions and discussion.

Specific questions concerned, for example, why the new ‘Erschliessung Vorgipfel’ development is planned, while the replacement of section 1 of the gondola lift is not part of the current plans. Christian Grichting and Urs Zurbriggen explained that section 1 is part of the master plan. Section 1 is to be retained in its existing form so that access can be maintained for the next few years. With this plan and the concentration of financial resources on Section 2, the feeder from Flaschen can be secured and the offering for guests significantly improved. The operating life of Section 1 can be significantly extended with spare parts from Section 2. The development of the Vorgipfel will enable a new offering, especially for the summer, and thus new added value, which can be used to co-finance other necessary projects such as the replacement of the cable car.
